Watercolor Monotypes

Watercolor monotype printing is a unique and expressive printmaking technique that combines the fluidity of watercolor with the spontaneity of monotype processes. In this method, watercolor paints are applied directly onto a smooth surface, such as glass or a metal plate, or even directly on thick paper. Once the desired design is created, damp paper is placed on top and then pressed to transfer the image. The result is a single, original print that captures the vibrant colors and textures of the watercolor, with each piece showcasing its own distinct qualities. This technique encourages experimentation and creativity, allowing artists to explore the interplay of color and form in a direct and immediate way.

I often leave the natural impressions of the leaves untouched, preserving their simplicity. But many times, I use them as a foundational layer—a starting point to build something more intricate and expressive upon.
